My winery is situated on the hill of San Biagio is situated on the hill of San Biagio Vecchio a stone’s throw from Faenza. Five hectares of vineyards overlooking the ancient Tower of Oriolo and the Plain to the sea.
I replace, in the management of the farm, Don Antonio Baldassarri: pastor of St. Biagio and vinter. It was my uncle George, winemaker in Faenza, to signal me that maybe in the hills of Oriolo there was an opportunity. When I cross the threshold of the winery for the first time, in a foggy day of late October 2004, I adverted the same smell as that of my grandfather. Good omen!
Don Antonio, keeper of the history of each vineyard of these hills, it seemed that he was waiting for me… My inexperience did not seems to be a problem. In the vineyard, I have been assisted by Mario, an old farmer of the place; and in the winery, as many of the winemakers of Faenza, by my uncle George. From them I learned much of what I know now of the wine and the vine. I do wine and thus pass my desires and fantasies of children, the care and support of my family, sympathy and wisdom of Don Antonio and my uncle George.
So I am not alone, even when, pruning in the silence of the vineyard, I decide what let to die and what let born …
